9mm vs 40 S&W for a duty pistol?

Setting up a duty/range pistol. Is there any real reason to choose 40 over 9mm these days?

Most agencies went back to 9mm, and the logic holds for you too. Modern 9mm hollow points meet the same FBI standards as 40, so terminal performance is close — and 9mm gives more capacity, softer recoil for faster follow-ups, cheaper ammo, and less gun wear. The 40 still hits a little harder and used 40 deals are cheap right now. If you shoot 40 well and like it, fine; for most, 9mm is the smarter pick.
