Is 6.5 Creedmoor overkill for deer?

Looking at a 6.5 Creedmoor for whitetail. Is it too much gun, or a good fit for deer hunting?

It is a great fit, not overkill. 6.5 Creedmoor shoots flat, bucks wind, and recoils noticeably less than a .308 or .30-06 — which makes precise hits easier, and precision is what kills deer cleanly. Use a controlled-expansion hunting bullet (ELD-X, AccuBond, Fusion) rather than a match bullet, sight in with that load, and you have an easy-shooting, capable deer rig that is also fun to shoot at the range.
