Budget AR torture test — 1,000 rounds, no cleaning
Ruger AR-556
Wanted to know if a sub-$700 AR would hold up, so I ran 1,000 rounds of steel and brass 5.56 with zero cleaning and only a little extra lube around 600. Result: two failures to extract early on with cheap steel that went away once it broke in, then nothing for the last ~700 rounds. Barrel got blazing hot during mag dumps but kept shooting ~2 MOA with decent ammo. Lost a star for the two early steel-case hiccups, but for the money this is a workhorse. Clean it and it will run forever.
