What barrel length for a home-defense AR?

0

Building an AR mainly for inside-the-house defense. Is a 16" too long to maneuver in hallways? People keep mentioning 11.5" pistols and SBRs but I want to keep it simple and legal. What length would you pick and why?

A 16" carbine is more maneuverable indoors than people think — practice clearing corners with the muzzle up or down and it is a non-issue. It keeps you out of NFA paperwork, gives you full velocity from 5.56 (which actually matters for how the round performs), and is the simplest legal path. Only go shorter if you understand the velocity and legal tradeoffs.

I run a 16" with a good light and sling for exactly this. Shorter is cool but you give up velocity and add blast/flash indoors. 16" keeps it simple.
