How often should I really clean my AR-15?

0

I hear everything from "clean it every range trip" to "ARs run dirty, leave it alone." For a gun I shoot maybe twice a month, what is a sane cleaning schedule that keeps it reliable without obsessing over it?

ARs genuinely run dirty. For your volume: wipe the bolt, re-lube the bolt carrier group well, and check the chamber after each trip — that 5-minute habit prevents almost every malfunction. Do a full detail clean a couple times a year or after a heavy/wet day. Lube matters far more than being spotless; a dry AR is what fails, not a dirty one.

I just keep mine wet (well-lubed) and clean it a few times a year. Never had a malfunction shooting a couple times a month.
