Best shotgun gauge if I am recoil-sensitive?

0

I want a home-defense shotgun but 12 gauge kicks harder than I am comfortable with. Is 20 gauge enough for defense, or should I work on managing 12 gauge with a good recoil pad and reduced-recoil loads?

20 gauge is absolutely adequate for home defense and the reduced recoil makes you faster and more accurate — and hits you can deliver beat power you cannot control. That said, a 12 gauge with reduced-recoil (low-recoil 00 buck) loads and a good recoil pad is very manageable for most people. Try both if you can; pick the one you shoot well.

My wife shoots a 20 gauge and it is night and day on recoil. Defensive 20 gauge buckshot exists and works. No shame in it.
